When it comes to social media, the hashtag is used to draw attention, organize, promote, and most of all to help you TRACK mentions.
Way back in 2007 hashtags got their start on Twitter as a way of making it easier for people to find, follow, and contribute to a conversation. Now they are used on all social media platforms and even in real life on shirts, billboards, for contests, and the world loves them!
Creating a hashtag is pretty simple as the only thing you need to do is put the "#" sign directly in front of the word or phrase you are turning into a hashtag. Keep in mind these simple rules: no spaces, no punctuation, no special characters, keep it simple. Punctuation is awesome for easy reading of your hashtag but is not necessary for tracking or for usability.
